Yesterday, we had a great route. Our plan was to do a circuit to see the major dams near Brisbane, that is Wivenhoe, Somerset and North Pine dams. We left the Gold Coast and took the Pacific Highway, Logan Motorway, Warrego Highway and Brisbane Valley Highway to the Dams and then home in the afternoon on the Gateway and Pacific Motoways. Nothing really exciting in the highway and motorway part of the route. The great route actually started at Fernvale and finished at Petrie.

I recently purchased an Arlen Ness kangaroo skin 1 piece suit, the same suit that Troy Bayliss uses. The suit has very good quality CE approved armour in all the high impact areas.
What amazed me the most was how light the suit is - it is almost half the weight of cow leather and twice as strong. Placement of the stretch panels around the shoulder and ribs is brilliant allowing me more flexibility than any other suit I have used.
A removable liner that can be washed is a great touch and helps keep the suit smelling fresh.
This suit is very comfortable a can be worn all day without discomfort in the usual areas.
I would highly recomend this suit to anyone looking for a top of the range suit at a reasonable price.

Well, I’ve finally done it. Talked the girlfriend into buying a bike that is! She’s decided that coming out with me for the occasional run through the hills is a real fun thing to do. She got her licence some time ago but she’s mostly been riding pillion on the ‘Blade and after a little coaxing she now wants to have her own bike. (Mmmm …. maybe I took a few corners too hard for her.)

Honda Australia Rider Training (HART) held a motorcycling event at their Pinkenba centre on Saturday 4th July to which interested parties were invited to “try out” their motorcycling skills with a view to perhaps becoming our future bikers. A team of instructors introduced a number of brand new riders to the art of motorcycle riding. Many of the “recruits” were riding for the very first time and were obviously a little apprehensive at first. I am sure the introductory classroom session helped allay some of their nerves. (more…)

Merlo Coffee has joined with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) to help encourage and facilitate much needed blood donations. The fourth annual Merlo Coffee Red Ride for Life event will be held on Saturday 18 July to unite motorcycle enthusiasts from across South East Queensland to help support this vital community service.
Motorcyclists will converge at the Merlo Coffee Torrefazione in Bowen Hills at 9.00am to enjoy free coffee and a sausage sizzle before travelling in convoy to the Springwood Blood Donor Centre to make blood donations which will help save lives. If you are ineligible to give blood, you are still welcome to come along and show your support! To check your eligibility, go to www.donateblood.com.au.

From my experience on roads, not only on the Gold Coast, but in other parts of Queensland, I have noticed a lot of road users (drivers and riders) have difficulty using roundabouts. Simply, a roundabout is an intersection with a circle in the middle. In reality, what a road user does at a cross intersection, they should do at a roundabout. For example, indicate, give way, use the correct lane, etc. (more…)

One important aspect of motorcycle riding, is to ride smart and stay safe. A key aspect of riding smart and staying safe is to be seen and for drivers to see motorcycle riders.
