One important aspect of motorcycle riding, is to ride smart and stay safe.  A key aspect of riding smart and staying safe is to be seen and for drivers to see motorcycle riders.

From time to time, some drivers don’t see or appreciate the presence of motorcyclists.  They change lanes, open doors, reverse (in a Hyundai), don’t cover their loads (especially trucks or trailers) and do other things that cause a motorcycle rider grief.  Of course, not all the blame lies with drivers.  Let’s be honest, there are motorcycle riders putting themselves in danger by lane splitting, riding in the blind spot of drivers, doing monos, speeding and other acts of reckless riding.

In 2006 the Motorcycle Council of New South Wales released a series of clever TV commercials to highlight the significant issue of being seen as a motorcycle rider.  The TV commercials contain a message for riders to “Get Noticed” and a message for drivers to “Look twice”. The commercials deliver both messages in a very unique way.  One of the commercials is below:

Caution: The commercial contains male and female nudity (now that’s got your attention!!!!).

    Great advice koppa.

Now we need some ads on the single vehicle crashes that make up the majority of fatalities and work out how to get the message through!!

I see another 37 year old motorcyclist killed in a single vehicle crash at Carbrook - sweeping bend and apparently lost control. There used to be some ’satisfaction’ in being able to blame someone else for motorcyclist deaths however single vehicle crashes makes us look like we are ‘Darwinians’!!

I saw the Mates billboard on the Nerang/Broadbeach road. Unfortuantely, some dickwad has graffitied it.

Also, going over Burringbar to Mullumbimby yesterday (northern NSW) saw a big banner on a railroad overpass, “Lookout for motorcyclists.”
