A couple of us went for a ride on Sunday, a nice cruisy run out to Boonah and back. We were having a chat over a drink (coffee and water ;) ) about bike maintenance and what you would do if something happened to the bike and you got stranded somewhere. Now since we were both on Suzukis the bikes aren’t likely to break. Ok, ok … I can see the inbox filling up already with that comment but allow me some fun :) .

I’m sure a few of you know of Dave at VIB Towing

But, you can have the most reliable bike on the planet and the thing that can always catch you out is a puncture. And you guessed it, after talking about it the unthinkable happened. A nail about 10 cm long, bent at a right angle into the rear tyre! And in the wet! Fortunately I recognised the signs and the change in handling, slowed down and since I was only about 10 km from home I could nurse the bike home. So much for the tyre though - totally destroyed. It looked Ok but the nail had damaged the tyre on the inside as well.

So what do you do if you get stuck somewhere. Well, I’m sure a few of you know of Dave at VIB Towing. But for those who don’t, then this is one of the most valuable numbers to have in your mobile phone - 0404 193 829.

Dave operates a recovery service for motorcycles and he is ultra careful when loading and transporting motorcycles. In fact I was chatting to him yesterday and he said to me that in the times when he can’t respond immediately himself he will not allow anyone else to collect the bike because he’d be worried about the bike even getting a scratch. Music to the ears of passionate and bike-proud riders!

Dave operates within the Gold Coast area and out to Canungra, although he says he will go anywhere if you’re prepared to pay! If you get stuck, give him a call. If he can’t head out to you straight away he may tell you to lock the bike somewhere safe like a service station and he’ll organise to get your bike back for you. The only time he said he can’t respond is a Saturday morning because of coaching commitments, but remember that he won’t trust anyone else to handle your pride and joy and he’ll get there as soon as possible.

Now if anyone has any other suggestions, contacts or ideas I’m sure there are people who’d like to hear them.

Those contact details again:

Dave

Do I get a set of steak knives with that advertisement??
Even without the knives, that number is now in my phone for just one of ‘those’ occasions.
