Recently I mentioned getting a nail in the rear tyre on the GSX-R, and how I could have been stranded on the side of the road (What Do You Do If You Get Stuck On The Side Of The Road). Some of you even thought that my enthusiastic mention of Dave sounded a bit like an ad for him - yeah Ok, I guess I got a bit carried away but hey, think about getting stuck somewhere and you’ll remember him
.
Anyway, back to the tyre story…

I came across this moving story recently in the QWeekend magazine. It’s a ‘real life’ story that stopped me in my tracks and made me think. I think that we all tend to get a bit de-sensitised and blasé at times about road safety. Every day we hear on the news about a traffic accident, many of which result in a death or serious injury. Sometimes we even stop for a few seconds and think “Isn’t that terrible? Another one!”
What I think that many of us forget is that these statistics are ‘real’ people who have families and who have futures that can be drastically changed within a few seconds. I hope that this story, as tragic and heart-wrenching as it is, will make some of us think the next time we get on our bikes. (And a huge thanks to our Emergency Services!)
