As a rider and a driver I like to think I’m motorbike aware.
I have a 6 year old daughter, Lola, who will will one day grow up to be a driver and maybe a rider. I decided to plant the seed of motorbike awareness in Lola by making a game out of spotting the motorbike first.
Lola loves this game and even keeps score!
Enjoy the ride…

On a very similar concept..
Having a step-son who is learning to drive and keen to ride in the near future while taking a drive we often follow bikes and groups of bikes.
One thing I do with him is we play spot the riding faults ,often we pull up behind riders after a few klms in the traffic at the lights and I will point out they have both feet dragging to a stop or duck paddling as they take off instead of the right foot staying on the brake pedal for full control and left foot only to the ground..he can now identify that people are riding over white paint and oily middle sections rather than use the wheel tracks at intersections.
I explain to him the importance of shoulder checks for any divergance of path ,merging or prior to lane changes..
And as we drive it is also a great time to explain why Motorcycles should not sit in the blind spots of the other drivers…and he sees it for himself.
Luckily the Qld Gov’t through it’s new P-Plate Laws where as he MUST hold a car Lic for 1 yr before getting a Bike Learners..has dashed his hopes of buying a 250cc scooter instead of a car for his cheap get around whilst doing TAFE next year..
Now he has the pleasure of joining the endless procession of single occupant cars clogging the roads each day and helping the destruction of our Ozone layer..but at least he supports Gov’t through an excessive fuel taxing and registration costs for my household has gone to 3 vehicles..
In China where he comes from this 18 yr old could legally ride a scooter at 16..can anyone please explain why Mr Rudd went to that World Summit when we can’t even get it right here ?

Comment by malcolmchalmers — Dec 20 @ 5:37 pmGood stuff, Kathie, and Paul. (Yeah, Paul, I don’t understand this new licence system. Can’t see the logic in it at all.)
A game I play every ride I go on is “Miss that car.” That’s the title, description and rules all in one.
The other game is “There in back in one piece.” Cheers.
Comment by Stevec — Dec 20 @ 5:39 pmThe only logic I can make of it was that the Car companies who have great lobbying power within Gov’t were a little scared that LAMS may have created a massive exodus of sales of small cars and a change over to Motorcycles or Scooters up to 660cc ?
Well apart from considering the massive fuel savings, the parking spaces requirement being divided by at least 4 and the gas emissions environmental improvement that would help reduce health issues in City areas….
I can’t see any good reason to allow that to happen can any of you ?
Ooohh hang on ..that’s what Gov’t is supposed to be promoting isn’t it ?
