Just an update on Bike Safe ….

I will have a stand at the Australian Motorcycle Expo at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, 19th-21st February 2010.  There will be a new Yamaha FJR1300 Police motorcycle on display as well as information in regards to Bike Safe.

As this has been rather time consuming getting this organised I have not been able to run a Bike Safe session since our last one in 2009.  I am looking forward to running the next session in March.

I have received some feedback in regards to Mt Cotton as a venue and some complaints in regards to start time.  I appreciate that most people have to travel and I will look at running a shorter session with a later start time to try and alleviate those concerns.

In regards to Mt Cotton as the venue, it was picked due to a number of reasons.

  • Central location from Brisbane/Gold Coast. (Sorry for those on north side Brisbane).
  • No cost involved and all equipment and rooms available. (although problems with audio, which has been fixed).

Having no funding as such I require cost neutral venues.  I may look at running a session in Brisbane and a separate session on the Gold Coast.  The only issue with this is that it is time comsuming as I conduct Bike Safe in and around my other Police duties.

I will update everyone as we progress and I thank those for the positive feedback and interest in the program.  Please feel free to drop me a comment on here or email me and come and say hi if you are at the Expo.

    great work Bradyn,searched for and found this “cut n pasted” regarding speed camera revenue ;

“Distribution of revenue from camera-detected offences is restricted by the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995. This requires that all money collected from camera-detected offences (after paying administrative costs) be used for:

road safety education and awareness programs
    road accident injury rehabilitation programs
road funding to improve the safety of the sections of state-controlled roads where crashes happen most frequently”

so there is funding, any ideas on how and who to approach to aquire the much needed funding that is already earmarked just for this type of education, and for road side signage to replace the vandalised ones. surely the great job everyone at MATES has done and the recognition gained should be all that is needed to secure some funding. No one should be out of pocket doing the great work you all do to save lives of riders. See you at the show.

You know we did about 300 klms Day ride yesterday out through Perseverance Dam to Toowoomba up around some beautiful green valleys with winding roads..
Lunch at the Farmers Arms on the Oakey side of Toowoomba..all for a bit less $ than going to the Gold Coast Bike show..?
No M1 full of dodo’s to deal with ..no crowds…no stress..only one Policeman in an unmarked black Mitsubishi evo something lurking behind our group until he got bored with us riding sensibly..

A light sprinkle of rain at a few places ..a wonderful day doing what Motorcycling is really about..

Hope it went well there too lol !

Interesting Paul, sounds like a good day. I actually braved it and went to the show - didn’t think it was too bad. I think they got the message, only 18 bucks to get in, parking was only 5 bucks for a car. Could have got expensive if you ate lots or got tempted by something on display … bikes I mean :)

Yes I was more annoyed that they told us last time to put 4 bikes in a car spot but charged us $5 each…
They should only be charging cars as it was supposed to be a Motorcycle Expo was it not ?
