One of the most interesting and innovative things I saw at the recent Australian Motorcycle Expo was the new Reevu helmet.

The Reevu RV MSX1 is the result of 7 years of development. The helmet uses a patented mirror system that allows the rider to see directly behind - the area that is the largest blind spot for a motorcycle.

Australian and NZ distributor Cary Murphy is very enthusiastic about the helmet because of its safety benefits. “The Reevu helmet can help prevent accidents, as the rear view technology provides the user with the same awareness given by the rear view mirror in a motor car.”

“When you wear a Reevu motorsports helmet your view of the road ahead is not affected in any way. The view behind, however, is so dramatically transformed, you can see the road behind you with your peripheral vision” says Cary.

I agree, especially having been on the receiving end of a car that didn’t stop in time! Mirrors on a motorcycle can be positioned to cover the lane next to you reasonably well and maybe, if you’re very lucky, a bit of the lane behind you. But nothing normally covers the view directly behind the rider.

The rear view system is made from fibre optics located throughout the top of the helmet. The system effectively ‘bends’ the light around the shape of the head, all within the moulding of the helmet, to provide a clear view of the road behind.

The helmet is Italian designed and not only does it look great but the excellent aerodynamics help to make the helmet both quiet and stable. The helmet is well ventilated and has removable and interchangeable liners.

Each helmet is hand assembled and meets or exceeds the world’s most rigorous safety and construction standards.

We’ll be able to publish a full review of the helmet in a couple of weeks.

Final approval and the first shipment into Australia is expected in a month, but if you want more details or are interested in stocking the helmet you can contact Cary now through the form below.

Good bling idea guys ..but I can’t help but feel it will be somewhat distracting still …just like music in a helmet….and I seem to see a very limited rear view..will wait to see one in life before I judge it though…

it’s hard enough now to get some people on bikes to do shoulder checks as required now..

So the real question is the $$$$$$$..
Italian designed usually means made in China..so hopefully not too big a price..
