This year, for the first time, the Canungra Rider Survivor is a joint initiative of MATES and the Department of Transport and Main Roads (SEQ South) Road Safety Team.
The aim of Rider Survivor is, through education and awareness, to keep motorcyclists (and other road users) safe on our roads. It offers a chance for riders to discuss concerns with the Department of Transport and Main Roads and other government agencies in an informal and non-confronting environment.
Also attending on the day will be representatives from the Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service who will be running demonstrations and making themselves available to talk to riders.
There will be various displays and activities for riders as well as hourly prize give-aways and a free sausage sizzle and drinks available as well as a chance to win $500 worth of riding gear.
The event will be held next to the Outpost Café at Canungra, starts at 8am and will run through to about 1pm.
For more information, please feel free to contact Kym Maxwell from the Department of Transport and Main Roads on 5630 8867.

Will also be there as part of Bike Safe

Comment by steelhorse — Mar 29 @ 10:11 amI just want to say thanks to all those who attended. I must say the event gets bigger and bigger each year. Six years and still going strong. I was impressed by the monitoring/auditing of the roads to assess their suitability for bikes. Things like run off areas, cambers of the road and the like. It is about time that governments recognisied that rtoads need to be designed for all vehicles. Great to see motorcycle shops supporting the event. Tyres and riding gear are especially important. The simulator always gets a laugh so bravo to H.A.R.T. Demonstrating that commitment to assessing peoples capabilities. Gold Coast City Council are also demonstrating their commitment to road safety by providing riding courses. It always amazes me that people judge riding skills by how long they have been riding. If you are taught wrong to start with, there is a good chance you are still doing it wrong today. Many thanks to the Fire Brigade reps and naturally the Police are always popular with their radar and story telling. Great job everyone
