In January I participated in the TeamMoto Advanced Rider Training Course. I went into the course with a very basic knowledge and skill set when it came to emergency braking and cornering.
During the emergency braking session with Rob and Mike I received valuable and encouraging feedback on my technique, and was quite amazed at just how fast I ended up being able to stop.
Cornering helped with my head and body positions and Johnny used comic visual analogies to make the concepts simple to grasp.
During the second half of the day on the closed road circuit at Mt Cotton, Johnny and Rob took the time to correct my riding position and showed me how and why to set up correctly for a corner.
It was a simple ‘line’ here and there that stuck in my mind and improved my confidence enormously.
During my rides since the course I have gradually been employing the techniques I learnt and have found myself entering corners faster, laying my bike over lower and looking further ahead.
I hear Johnny’s or Rob’s voice in my head advising me in particular situations and it really helps. (I also realise that this is probably the only place I can admit that without being put in a padded cell!)
The confidence I have gained through this new skill set has allowed me to experience more joy that comes with the thrill of the ride. What I have also realised is there is so much more for me to learn and I am almost impatient for my next course.
My goal is to refine my art of motorcycle riding and to do that I intend to continue to train until all my questions are answered, I am at one with my bike and we flow with the road.
