Just thought I would let everyone know that I am still alive and still working on improving Bike Safe.

April saw myself and 2 other members attend the International Police Motorcycle Forum in Goulburn at the NSW Police Driver Training.  It was very interesting to compare notes on Police Training and Motorcycle related incidents on roads.

The Friday saw us ride numerous motorcycles and compare characteristics etc.  2 Sheriffs from LA County were also in attendance and myself and Snr Const Phil Bolton, from Qld Police Driver Training, set up our slow speed manoeuvre area for the other states and countries to try.

Funnily enough, no one was game.

The guys from the America were impressed with the tightness of our slow speed areas and the fact it was done without use of clutch.

On our road trip back we decided to stop in at the National Motorcycle Museum at Taree. Can I say for anyone travelling in that area this is a must. The range and condition of motorcycles on display is outstanding and is really a trip down memory lane.

Bike Safe has been a bit slow of late due to holidays and myself relieving in another position. I am hoping to change that soon by implementing a website and organising an Open day next year.

I would also like to thank all those that replied to my Braking Questions.

It was very interesting to see the results. The majority of people stated that they had been trained a certain way but when it came down to actually having to brake in an emergency then they really only just applied the brakes. Remember what ever method you use - Practice it and become Proficient at it.  It is pointless waiting to practice the skill when the emergency happens.

With winter (if you can use that term in Qld) now upon us, I would ask that extra care is taken when riding.  When things are really cold we tend to concentrate more on our comfort than on our riding and simple mistakes can bring us undone.

Interesting to see the new ad from Qld Transport and some of the comments it has generated.

You may have seen the ad where the car pulls in front of the motorcycle rider and he locks the rear wheel and gets high-sided. I appreciate that the car driver is at fault in this ad but I really think the ad is trying to focus on motorcycle riders to be more aware.

YES we are often victims to illegal actions by other road users but it really comes down to internalising rather than externalising. It is pointless being DEAD right.

Look at how you ride, where you look and how you anticipate the actions of others. I find it interesting that the rider in the clip locked the rear tyre. Again practice proper braking. Good application by front brakes may have avoided the rider from falling.

I will attempt to place some Goulburn Pics in due course.

Cheers

Bradyn

Tx for the update, Sgt Murphy.
I visited that museam in Taree a few months ago. An amazing collection of bikes there. Well worth the stop.
