About Me

Steve’s introduction to motorcycling was in the early 1980’s on the back of an ex-Police Kawasaki Z1000 on a twisty piece of road at Jenolan Caves west of Sydney. He was instantly hooked on the thrill of motorcycling. Eager to learn, he realised very quickly that the licensing system at the time was hopelessly inadequate in teaching the skills necessary to become a safe and competent rider. He looked outside the system and completed his first advanced rider training course even before obtaining his road licence, and has been a passionate supporter of rider training and education campaigns since. Steve plays a major role in MATES as a management committee member, road safety advocate and as the chief writer and editor for its website. Steve is also a regular contributor to several motoring radio shows - 4BC’s “Motoring Show” with Russell White, “Behind the Wheel” with Joel Helmes and “Carsguide Radio”. He is driven by a desire to educate riders in the physical and mental skills involved in safe and responsible riding, and to present a balanced and accurate view of the pleasures of motorcycling to both riders and the community as a whole.

Double White Lines - Why Take The Risk?

What is wrong with a section of the motorcycle community that they need to put themselves and other road users at risk? Yesterday two of us rode from the Gold Coast out to Boonah. Perfect weather, good roads, sweeping bends - in other words a perfect ride but someone always has to spoil it!
