The Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) and Honda Australia Rider Training (HART) are seeking “returning riders” to participate in a study which aims to help identify the types of training, licensing and countermeasures that would be most beneficial for reducing crash involvement.
A returning rider is defined as someone who:
- Used to ride and covered no less than 20,000 kms in those years.
- Stopped riding for a period of five years or more.
- Returned to riding in the past six months and has ridden between 500 and 1,000 kms in that period.

Honda Australia has announced that they will be restructuring the management of their various high profile events and as a result, will cease operations of the Honda Riders Club of Australia (HRCA) effective immediately.
All events to take place from this point on will be branded under the corporate Honda banner.

Official figures for motorcycle sales in Australia during 2009 have been released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) and show a decrease of 13.6% in overall sales. Whilst this may be alarming to many, Australia has actually fared much better than most of the world, with sales in the US down a staggering 44% to September last year and Japan reporting that demand in some sectors has been reduced by as much as 55%.

For those of us with little aspiring motorcycle champions the news that Honda Motorcycles and former National Motocross/Supercross Champion Lee Hogan have teamed up to launch “MotoKids” in 2010 is certainly good news.
The program is already gaining widespread coverage, and rightly so.

I was a teenager in the 1970s living on a 11,000 acre wheat farm in western New South Wales. Our nearest neighbours were 5 miles (8kms) away and they were our next door neighbour. As kids on a farm, to get around we improvised with any means of transport; sometimes we rode pushbikes; there was the car with no doors, little brakes, and a few other safety features missing; there were horses, but they were too much trouble to saddle up; and, there was the motorbike.
