  4. TeamMoto will be participating in a Rider Survivor event to be held on Sunday 16 October 2011 at Canungra (next to The Outpost Café).

Rider Survivor will be hosted by MATES (Motorcycle Awareness Training Education Safety)

Rider Survivor days are a great opportunity for motorcyclists to combine their Sunday ride with the chance to talk to police, emergency services and others about the safety issues faced when riding.

Fire and Rescue, Ambulance and Police officers will be on hand to answer questions and profile what happens in the event of a serious crash.  Attendees will also have the opportunity to see radar detection equipment, police motorcycles and a mobile car camera first hand.

Also there will be the HART (Honda Riding Simulator) to allow you to test out your riding skills and the Department of Transport and Main Roads Databike which gives you engineering feedback on rides you may have done.

Riders will be able to take a break, enjoy a sausage sizzle and check out information on hazard perception, braking distances and scanning techniques, as well as have an opportunity to have their say on road safety.

  5. International Female Ride Day was introduced in Canada in 2007 by MOTORESS to promote women in riding and to encourage other women to take up this wonderful and enjoyable activity. This event takes place annually on the first Friday in May.

It started as a national campaign but within 12 months was being embraced by female motorcyclists around the world.

This Ride Day is to celebrate the passion women have for motorcycling regardless of age or skill levels. It is about enjoying the freedom of riding a motorcycle, the camaradie of riding with others and highlighting the increasing numbers of women taking up this activity.

Further information about what promotions are being staged around the world can be found at www.motoress.com.

So ladies enjoy the day. It doesn’t matter what bike you ride. You don’t have to ride in a group. You don’t even have to ride far. Just get out there and “RIDE”.

  6. The annual Rider Survivor event offers a chance for riders to discuss concerns with the Department of Transport and Main Roads and other government agencies in an informal and non-confronting environment.

This year’s event will be held on Sunday 10th April at Christie St Canungra, just next to the Outpost Cafe, from 8am to 1pm.

Also attending on the day will be representatives from the Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service who will be running demonstrations and making themselves available to talk to riders.

There will be various displays and activities for riders as well as a free sausage sizzle and drinks, and a chance to win a prize of riding gear.

  7. On Sat 2 October 2010 MATES had a sausage sizzle at Supercheap Auto, Kortum Drive, West Burleigh. Despite the inclement weather and the football game (in Melbourne), MATES had a successful first sausage sizzle and generated funds to put towards projects to make motorcycling safer.

A BIG THANK YOU to the MATES who cooked, served, setup, cleaned up and discussed MATES information and a BIG THANK YOU to Supercheap Auto and the staff at the West Burleigh store.

The sausage sizzle provided MATES with great exposure and the feedback from the MATES brochures and other information was very positive. Check out our photos.

  9. Motorcyclists are an interesting breed. Give them a reason to get together for a ride and they’ll jump at it. Make it for a worthy cause and they’ll throw everything they can into it.

I had a chat to one such guy this week. His name is Glenn Martin, he lives in Canberra and has decided to join together with around 50 other riders to ride around Australia raising funds for the Steven Walter Foundation.

Steven Walter was nineteen when he died after an eight year battle with cancer. His whole life revolved around motorcycles, and he was a former NSW Junior Enduro Champion and an Australian Four Day Silver medalist.

  10. This year, for the first time, the Canungra Rider Survivor is a joint initiative of MATES and the Department of Transport and Main Roads (SEQ South) Road Safety Team.

The aim of Rider Survivor is, through education and awareness, to keep motorcyclists (and other road users) safe on our roads. It offers a chance for riders to discuss concerns with the Department of Transport and Main Roads and other government agencies in an informal and non-confronting environment.
